PROCEDURAL UPDATE ON NTSB INVESTIGATION INTO THE COLLAPSE OF I-35W BRIDGE IN MINNEAPOLIS

August 29, 2008

The National Transportation Safety Board today released the following update on its investigation into August 1, 2007 collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Safety Board investigators yesterday met with representatives from all parties for a technical review of the factual information. Although analytical work is still being completed and validated, the factual record is substantially complete and the NTSB is proceeding with drafting a final report.

Some additional reports will be added to the public docket within the next several weeks. The NTSB team believes it will have a draft final report presented to the Board Members in time for consideration at a public Board meeting tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 2008.
The report will contain conclusions, a probable cause and safety recommendations aimed at preventing future accidents.

The meeting, open for observation to the general public and news media, will take place at Safety Board headquarters in Washington, D.C., and can be viewed free of charge by webcast on the Board's website, www.ntsb.gov. The Board will issue a further announcement on Board meeting logistics closer to the meeting date.
