NTSB LAUNCHES TEAM TO GERMANY TO ASSIST IN INVESTIGATION OF MIDAIR COLLISION 

July 2, 2002

Washington, DC -- The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a team of investigators to Germany to assist in the investigation of the midair collision involving a DHL cargo plane and a Bashkirian Airlines passenger plane. The government of Germany, under the direction of the Aircrafts Accident Investigation Germany, is in charge of this accident investigation. The NTSB's team will be led by Lorenda Ward, U.S. Accredited Representative. Accompanying the team will be experts in the areas of air traffic, system, structures and operations. The Safety Board's representatives are expected to arrive in Germany tomorrow morning.

Information on the progress of the investigation will be released by the government of Germany.
