NTSB LAUNCHES TEAM TO INVESTIGATE FATAL MID-AIR COLLISION IN BURLINGTON, NEW JERSEY

August 9, 2000

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a team to investigate a mid-air collision, which happened this morning in Burlington, New Jersey involving a Piper PA31 and a Piper PA44. Reports are that there were 11 persons aboard the two aircraft. As of 2:00 p.m., 10 bodies had been recovered.

The NTSB's team is headed by Robert Benzon, Investigator-in-Charge. The nine-member team will also be accompanied by Board Member George Black and Public Affairs Officer Terry Williams.

An NTSB command post will be established later today. This evening's press briefing will be announced as soon as the information is available.
