Food Security
Measurement
USDA has worked with the research community through the Food
Security Measurement Project to develop a rigorous measure of household food security.
This methodology empowers local communities to assess their own food security through the
Guide described above. It has also been incorporated into the national nutrition
monitoring system, providing a rich data source for analyzing changes in the level and
distribution of food security in the United States.
