Assistant Secretary Gordon: Travel to France, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, and Cyprus

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip H. Gordon traveled to France, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, and Cyprus July 6-14.

Assistant Secretary Gordon accompanied Secretary Clinton to Paris for the third meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People as well as to meetings with French officials.

In Dubrovnik, Croatia, Assistant Secretary Gordon met with high-level government officials to underscore the close partnership and friendship the United States and Croatia enjoy. He also met with a wide range of regional leaders attending the Croatia Summit, at which he delivered remarks.

Assistant Secretary Gordon then traveled to Belgrade, Serbia, to meet with senior government officials to underscore U.S. support for the formation of a new government committed to working towards Serbia’s European future, particularly with respect to regional stability and a constructive relationship with Kosovo.

In Pristina, Kosovo, Assistant Secretary Gordon met with senior government officials to congratulate Kosovo on the planned end of supervised independence this September and to continue encouraging Kosovo’s leaders to work on European integration. Assistant Secretary Gordon also visited northern Kosovo and received a briefing from NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) and European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) officials.

In Cyprus, Assistant Secretary Gordon met with European Union Political Directors to discuss the range of European and global challenges on which we are closely coordinating with our EU partners. In Nicosia, he also met with Republic of Cyprus officials and other Cypriot interlocutors.
