Education Secretary Arne Duncan to Celebrate Launch of Teach Plus D.C. and Inaugural Class of Teaching Policy Fellows

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give remarks at the event launching Teach Plus in Washington, D.C. at 5:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Washington, D.C. The launch event will also introduce the first cohort of the D.C. program’s Teaching Policy Fellows – 25 high performing teachers from D.C. public and charter schools. Duncan will discuss the value of programs like Teach Plus to transform the teaching profession followed by questions from the audience.

Teach Plus aims to improve education outcomes for students by ensuring that effective and experienced teachers stay in the classroom. With the addition today of the District of Columbia, Teach Plus now operates in six cities, including Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Memphis. The program selects effective teachers as Teaching Policy Fellows to gain a foundation in education policy, research and best practices and provide them with leadership opportunities. The goal is to keep great teachers in classrooms and schools serving low-income and minority students by equipping them with skills and knowledge to advocate more effectively for their students.
