Cicilline Recognizes National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Feb 7, 2012

WASHINGTON – Today marks the 12th annual recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, an initiative to raise awareness about AIDS in the African-American community.  U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI), who has cosponsored H.Res.51 to support the goals of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, issued the following statement:

“Today, three decades after HIV/AIDS claimed its first victims in the United States, medical and scientific research continues to make incredible strides against the spread of this disease.  Yet, despite the progress we have made, HIV/AIDS still afflicts far too many members of our African-American community.  As we recognize National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we should renew our vigilance and aggressively promote the health care policies that will allow us to one day eradicate this disease from our society.”
