Langevin Encourages RI Businesses to Check Out Google Event

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) is encouraging Ocean State entrepreneurs to take advantage of a special opportunity provided by Google and the RI Small Business Development Center at Johnson & Wales University, which will provide services to help small and startup companies build their businesses online. The Rhode Island Get Your Business Online event is scheduled for Monday, June 11, 2012, from 7:30am to 5:30pm at the Convention Center in Providence. Attendees can participate in some or all of the sessions in which Google employees will provide free services to assist businesspeople improve their offerings on the Web.

“Especially in Rhode Island, where small companies make up about 96 percent of all businesses, we cannot adequately accelerate our economic growth unless these businesses are thriving,” said Langevin. “I want to be sure our small and startup business community has information about this opportunity to take advantage of  expert advice and aid to get everything they can out of their Internet presence. I look forward to spending time at the Convention Center Monday to continue to keep up with their needs and listen to them.”

Langevin is scheduled to attend Monday from approximately 11:30am to 12:15pm. The four sessions taking place at the event are:

  • “Build your free website” to assist with creating and publishing a business site;
  • “Online Expo” to offer one-on-one help from Google team members;
  • “Grow your business online” to teach the basics of Internet tools to market and run a company; and
  • “Promote your business online” to provide further help with marketing to customers.
