Congressman Woodall’s Response to President Obama’s Remarks Concerning the Israeli Border

Lawrenceville, GA – Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA) issued the following statement in response to yesterday’s remarks by the President to return the country of Israel to pre-1967 borders:

“As a long-time supporter of Israel, I was very disappointed by President Obama’s remarks regarding the Administration’s proposed future foreign policy on a way forward for Israel and the Palestinians.  It is naïve and imprudent to believe that lasting peace can be achieved by chipping away at Israel’s sovereignty.”

“We cannot go backward.  Any discussion that includes a demand that Israel to return to pre-1967 borders jeopardizes both Israel and its neighbors in their struggle to achieve freedom and democracy.  We must go forward, and that means looking for a viable solution during this tumultuous time that does not threaten Israel and its unique democratic way of life.”

“In a land where violence and uncertainty reign, Israel stands out as a beacon of hope and freedom, and I will fight to ensure that it continues to stand for all time.”
