Press Releases

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas), a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s September unemployment report:

“Today’s weak jobs report serves as a reminder that far too many Americans are still looking for work or have stopped trying in the Obama economy. Chronic unemployment plagues our nation because the Administration continually promotes the same failed tax-and-spend policies that have stalled economic growth.

“Just last week, the Bureau of Economic Data reported that GDP grew at a sluggish rate of 1.3 percent in the second quarter of this year – down from the year’s first quarter. This economic growth matches the slowest quarter since 2009, and underscores the need for pro-growth policies to reenergize our economy.

“At a time when our nation has experienced such high jobless rates, President Obama and Washington Democrats support tax hikes that are estimated to cost our economy 700,000 jobs. Instead of further eroding small businesses’ confidence through higher taxes, we should focus on policies that encourage job creators. North Texans, and all Americans, deserve better than the status quo and it’s time for a new path.”
