Key Issue: E-Verify – Congress’ largest jobs billIf Congress is serious about putting Americans back to work, it should quickly pass the Legal Workforce Act. The act would make it mandatory for all employers to use E-Verify – an easy-to-use, accurate, computer-based employee verification system that ensures employees have a legal right to work in the United States. More than 7 million people take American jobs by working illegally in the United States. Under the act, many of those 7 million jobs will be available to American workers when E-Verify is fully implemented in two years. What other jobs program can guarantee millions of jobs for American workers in two years? There is a clear need to pass the Legal Workforce Act now. Groups that support the Legal Workforce Act include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Restaurant Association, National Association of Homebuilders, Society for Human Resource Management, American Council on International Personnel and American Meat Institute. A more complete list can be accessed at the link below. A recent Pulse Opinion Research poll found 94 percent of Republican, 81 percent of Democrat and 84 percent of independent likely voters support requiring all U.S. employers to use E-Verify. More significantly, 76 to 81 percent of likely minority voters support mandatory E-Verify. The following pages provide information on the Legal Workforce Act, as well as my positions on other immigration issues. Legal Workforce Act Pages
