NCAI Executive Council Winter Session

NIEA President Mary Jane Oatman- Wak Wak, Nez Perce, addressed the main general assembly with NIEA's 2011 legislative priorities and joint priorities with NCAI and NIEA regarding the Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET), Close Up Foundation and NIEA Reception

Feb. 8, 2011 | Washington, D.C.

The United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET) and NIEA partnered to host a reception for both USET's Impact Week and NIEA's Legislative Summit. Both organizations gathered to share priorities and place a higher emphasis on education for all in attendance. Students who attended the Close Up Foundation's week in Washington, DC presented their tribal action plans before the reception. This is the first year for USET and NIEA's partnership and the third year for NIEA's partnership with the Close Up Foundation.




Tribal Leaders Reception with the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian

Dec. 14, 2010

The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) and NIEA gathered together more than 125 tribal leaders for a reception to draw attention to the importance of education as a priority in tribal governments. This event occured just before the second White House Tribal Nations Summit in Washington, D.C. President Barack Obama brought together tribal leaders to discuss the needs of Indian Country.
