SmartWay Excellence Awards
EPA’s SmartWay Excellence Awards recognize high performers that are leading the freight industry to a clean, efficient and more sustainable future. The awards honor SmartWay partners that are helping set efficiency benchmarks for how shippers and their carriers are moving products and goods in the North American freight sector. The SmartWay awards program typically gets underway in late spring for the upcoming year’s award event, which is usually held the following fall in conjunction with other key industry events. For example, past award ceremonies have been hosted by the American Trucking Associations at its annual Management Conference and Exhibition and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals at its Annual Conference. What's New for SmartWay Excellence Awards
2012 marks the first year that EPA is recognizing its SmartWay partners using the program's "second generation" suite of freight assessment and carbon tracking tools. During 2010 and 2011, EPA SmartWay and its partners upgraded all of the program's assessment and tracking tools with an improved system to quantify and benchmark the efficiency of moving goods.
These tools are now being used by all SmartWay partners, and this year's recognition is based on the first full year of partner performance, assessed using the new tools.
Based on data generated by the new tools, SmartWay's final awardees were selected with a set of awards criteria that identified top performers within their respective partner categories.
