OPDR Acting Administrator

Michael S. Jones is the Acting Administrator of the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Office of Policy Development and Research (OPDR). As Acting Administrator, he is responsible for overseeing the assessment and development of employment and training policies, managing the design of the agency's research and demonstration program, supporting agency budget and appropriation activities, and providing leadership for agency strategic planning and performance activities. In addition, he coordinates the agency's legislative and regulatory agendas, as well as international activities.

Mr. Jones has over 30 years of experience with employment and training programs at the national, regional, state, and local levels. Prior to assuming responsibility as Acting Administrator, Mr. Jones served as the OPDR Deputy Administrator. Mr. Jones joined ETA in 1998 and since that time has served as Agency Budget Officer, Deputy Director of the Office of Grants and Contracts Management, Executive Assistant and Director of Financial and Administrative Services in the Philadelphia ETA Regional Office, Executive Assistant to the Administrator of the Office of National Programs, and Federal Representative in the Division of Seasonal Farmworker Programs.

Prior to joining ETA, Mr. Jones worked for 20 years in a California non-profit that provided education, job training, employment and other community services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers and other rural populations; serving the majority of that time as Director of Research and Development and Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Officer. Prior to that, he was the Director of a school district-wide remedial reading program. He has also managed summer youth programs, been a junior college and college instructor, was a strategic planning and reading program development consultant, and authored and coauthored resource guides and learning games. Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with concentration in Education, Psychology and Criminal Justice and a Masters of Public Administration.
