Congresswoman Hahn Applauds Passage of EV Bill

Rep. Hahn “I’m introducing legislation to expand tax credits so we can build upon this step forward”

Washington, DC – This afternoon, Congresswoman Janice Hahn applauded the House’s passage of S. 739 and H.R. 1402. Congresswoman Hahn was a vocal co-sponsor of H.R. 1402, which together with S. 739 authorizes the Architect of the Capitol to establish electric vehicle recharging stations in Senate and House parking areas at no cost to the Federal Government.

“Today’s passage is a small but meaningful step towards making our new clean energy future a reality,” said Rep. Hahn. “Adding charging stations to House and Senate parking will give lawmakers an up close and personal experience with the EV technology blazing the trail to a clean energy future. It may even push many considering buying an EV off the fence. I’m aware that we can and should do far more, which is why I am introducing the Electric Vehicle Purchasing Credit Expansion Act which expands incentives for EV purchases.”

Since 2009, qualified plug-in electric vehicles have received a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500, depending on their kilowatt-per-hour capacity. The Electric Vehicle Purchasing Credit Expansion Act would increase the tax credit to $10,000 by raising the base credit claimable by all plug-in electric vehicles to $3,250, and the maximum kilowatt-per-hour credit to $6,750 (fully claimable at 19 kwhr).

Congresswoman Janice Hahn is one of only two members of Congress to own and drive an electric vehicle, a Nissan Leaf, which she uses to travel her San Pedro based district in California.
