Cicilline Statement on Veterans Day

Nov 10, 2011 Issues: The War in Afghanistan, Veterans

PAWTUCKET, RI – U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:

“On this Veterans Day, our country honors all the men and women who have served our country in uniform, as well as the countless sacrifices made every day by their families and loved ones.

“Throughout the years, our nation’s veterans have bravely stood watch, keeping our country safe and protecting the liberties we hold dear.  For all those who have served our nation, we owe a debt that we can never fully repay; in particular, we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our liberty.

“We must also remember the responsibility we have to our veterans when they return. While they have never demanded anything in return for their service, our veterans deserve to know that all of their needs, including health care, housing, and employment will be met.

“Our thoughts and deep gratitude go especially to all those serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially our fellow Rhode Islanders. In the past decade, their example, often in the face of multiple tours of duty, has provided all of us great inspiration. With the end of their service now in sight, we pray for their continued success and safe return home.”
