There are three major retirement systems to cover NIST employees although most employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS); a major component of FERS is the Thrift Savings Plan.  All are government-wide programs, administered and managed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) or the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board.  To learn basic information about each program, you can visit their websites by clicking on the links found on this page.
