Requests for Smithsonian Information
As a trust instrumentality of the United States, the Smithsonian Institution is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA, 5 USC §552), which applies only to federal agencies within the Executive Branch of government. It is the Smithsonian's policy to answer requests for information consistent with its written policy and the principles of FOIA and in a manner that fosters openness and accountability.
