Black: President Obama’s War on Coal Must Be Stopped

WASHINGTON – Congressman Diane Black (R-TN) released the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of Stop the War on Coal Act (H.R. 3409), legislation that protects American jobs and promotes domestic energy production by stopping the most extreme elements of the President’s job-killing environmental agenda.

“As unemployment remains above 8 percent, the Obama administration continues full steam ahead with its extreme environmental agenda that is resulting in fewer jobs and higher energy prices. With my support, the House passed legislation to halt the administration’s regulatory assault on the U.S. coal industry.  More than half of Tennessee’s electric power generation comes from coal. As a top producer and consumer of coal generated energy, Tennesseans will be among the hardest hit by the administration’s ill-conceived war on coal.

“If the Environmental Protection Agency gets its way, America will no longer be electricity independent. We will have to rely on other countries’ electricity to power our homes and businesses. The president’s extreme environmental policies are sending energy prices through the roof and shipping jobs overseas. His war on coal must be stopped before any further damage is done,” said Congressman Black.
