Proof of Concept Initiative

Iowa State University is launching a Proof of Concept Initiative (POCI) to provide resources for innovative research and to help facilitate and accelerate commercialization. The POCI is under the leadership of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and represents a collaboration among the ISU Research Park, the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, and the ISU Research Foundation. The POCI is built on a foundation of diverse funding sources, all with the same goal of commercialization. Through our common application process, all sources of funding described below will be evaluated as possible resources. These funding opportunities include:

Prior to initiating the application process, applicants should contact the individuals below to discuss their idea:

The process for obtaining POCI funding includes completing an application form; selected applicants will then be invited to make a formal 15 minute presentation to an evaluation panel regarding the request. Awards will typically range from $10,000-$100,000, depending upon the project and funding source. Projects must be complete within 6-12 months. A copy of the evaluation form can be found here.

For more information on the general concept of the Proof of Concept Center, the Kauffman Foundation published a white paper that can be found here.
