Tours

Ranger led tours are the only way to see the inside of the Frederick Douglass house. Tours are ticketed, and there are a limited number of tickets available for each tour. Tour tickets are available by reservation or on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis. Visitors are strongly encouraged to make a reservation to guarantee their place on the tour.

Tours last approximately 30 minutes. Visitors are encouraged to arrive at least 20 minutes early to pick up tickets at the Visitor Center and use restrooms.

Rules and Notes

  • Reserved tickets must be claimed at the Visitor Center desk at least ten minutes prior to the start of the tour.
  • Visitors cannot join a tour after it has entered the Douglass Home.
  • Strollers, tote bags, backpacks and other large bags are not allowed in the house.
  • Flash photography is not allowed in the home.
  • The Visitor Center, grounds and first floor of the historic home are accessible. Visitors should be advised that there are 85 stairs leading up to the home, as well as a ramp.
  • Tours last aproximately 30 minutes. Plan to spend 1-1.5 hours for a site visit.
