ANNOTATION: The impact of sex offender registration and community notification laws on crime reduction is investigated. This report contains these sections: summary; introduction; theoretical foundation; notification levels in Washington State; what "evidence-based" means; study methods; specific deterrence; and general deterrence. There appears to be "some indication that sex offender registration laws lower sex offense crime rates" (p. 5), but the authors caution that only two rigorous studies could be found.
