The Register-Herald: Capito says EPA response on coal-related rule inadequate

June 15--BECKLEY -- Citing the importance of the coal industry in her home state, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito is still demanding answers from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Monday, Capito penned a strongly worded letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.

Capito recently asked the Environmental Protection Agency if jobs and economic impact were considered during rulemaking processes. A letter returned from the EPA, Capito said, was "glossing over" questions regarding the EPA's consideration of employment and the overall economy in decision-making.

"The way I see it, either the EPA did not run proper analysis or the administration knew the rules concerning coal-fueled plants would cost jobs and increase utility costs and still went ahead anyway," Capito said. "Either way, this is unacceptable."
