TOP STORY: Fugitive apprehended at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

June 8 wasn't a typical Wednesday morning at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Instead, a major operation was underway. A fugitive – an alleged child predator – was on the loose, attempting to leave the country.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, serving alongside members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Task Force and representatives from the Cobb County Sheriff's Department and the Atlanta Police Department, sprang into action.

That individual, Neftali Diaz-Guevara, was wanted by the Cobb County Police Department on felony charges for child molestation, kidnapping and influencing a witness. He was attempting to board a plane back to his native El Salvador.

"The capture of this dangerous fugitive is evidence of ICE's and our law enforcement partners' commitment to uphold public safety," said Felicia Skinner, ICE's Atlanta field office director. "Fleeing the United States to avoid justice and evade law enforcement was not an option."

Diaz-Guevara is currently being held at the Cobb County Jail. He will subsequently be turned over to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers who will initiate removal proceedings.
