March 3, 2011 - HSI agents arrest website operator who illegally streamed copyrighted sporting events

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents arrested Bryan McCarthy of Deer Park, Texas for operating channelsurfing.net. The website illegally streamed copyrighted sports telecasts and pay-per-view events. McCarthy faces a maximum of five years in prison.Full Story

March 2, 2011 - 7 arrested and charged with distributing drugs and money laundering

The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which includes representatives from ICE HSI, arrested seven individuals in Texas as part of Operation Stained Glass. The individuals were charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and/or laundering the drug proceeds. Full Story

March 1, 2011 - ICE agents return more than $14,000 to victim of telemarketing fraud

ICE HSI agents returned $14,600 to an elderly Chicago woman who was a victim of telemarketing fraud. The woman was told that she won a multi-million dollar lottery prize, but had to pay fees and service charges to collect the winnings. She lost more than $70,000 of her savings to the scam artists. March 1, 2011 - 678 gang members and associates arrested during Project Southern Tempest

ICE conducted Project Southern Tempest, the largest ICE-led gang enforcement operation in history from December 2010 to February 2011. During that time, ICE arrested 678 gang members from 133 different gangs. This operation also marked another significant milestone for the agency, as ICE arrested its 20,000th gang member in Salt Lake City since the anti-gang program was introduced in 2005.Full Story

February 28, 2011 - Self-described "militant extremist" sentenced to 5 years in prison for visa fraud

Brahim Lajqi, an Albanian from Kosovo, was sentenced to prison for making false statements on his immigration documents when applying to become a permanent U.S. resident. On several occasions, he also expressed desire to “get even” with the United States and discussed acquiring weapons and explosives for an attack on Washington, D.C. Full Story
