Opportunity Description: 

General Park Operations Volunteer

Duties include assisting park staff with day-to-day operations and maintenance tasks. These can include staffing the park entrance station, cleaning campsites and restrooms, mowing lawns, landscaping, painting and general upkeep of park facilities. Volunteers serve as the emergency contact overnight and relay any issues to the Park Ranger. One to two weeknights per week volunteers are the sole emergency contact while the resident park ranger is off duty.

Quechee State Park is a busy recreation area that focuses on camping. There are severl miles of trails around Quechee Gorge here as well. Park staff maintains the campground, and oversees the trail system. Some shifts may be available in the Quechee Gorge Visitor Center as well. US Army Corps of Engineers day use area and Vermont Institute of Natural Science nearby.

All staff receive on the job training for all duties. Uniforms provided.

Island Pond is 1 hour northwest; Lancaster, NH 45 minutes to the south; Colebrook, NH 40 minutes northeast.

The park also has an interpretive proram, some time may be devoted to that. Little River State Park is on the western shore of Waterbury Reservoir, and at the southern end of the more than 40,000 acre Mount Mansfield State Forest. The park offers camping, with many amenities for campers including cabin rentals, two beaches, boat rentals, boat docking space, miles of hiking and multi-use trails, several self-guided interpretive hikes and nature and history programming. The park includes the site of the largest Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the state. On-the-job training is provided for all duties and tasks. Uniforms provided.
