NTSB Sends Team to Railroad Derailment in Maryland

August 21, 2012

The National Transportation Safety Board is dispatching a team to investigate a freight train derailment that occurred in Ellicott City, Md., earlier today.

At approximately 12:02 a.m. EST, a CSX freight train derailed near downtown Ellicott City. Two fatalities have been reported.

Railroad Investigator Jim Southworth is Investigator-in-Charge and is on scene. He will be accompanied by NTSB technical specialists in the areas of human performance, operations, and signals.
