USPTO to Deploy New Intellectual Property Training Modules
WASHINGTON - The United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Global Intellectual Property Academy (GIPA) has developed a new series of intellectual property video training modules to supplement its training mission for developing and least developed countries. Intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, promote innovation and creativity worldwide. By promoting innovation and creativity, such rights stimulate economic growth in both developed and developing economies.
GIPA’s mission is to improve intellectual property protection and enforcement domestically and abroad. Government officials from around the world come to GIPA at the USPTO’s campus in Alexandria, Va., to learn about intellectual property rights protection, compliance with relevant international treaties, and the administration of patent and trademark examining operations. The GIPA curriculum includes country- and region-specific programs, and GIPA works closely with other U.S. government agencies, trading partners and international organizations in fostering awareness about intellectual property rights. These new modules allow GIPA to expand the reach of its programs.
“The obvious benefit of GIPA’s distance training modules is the capacity to train more people around the world in a cost-effective manner,” noted Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO David Kappos. “We believe that GIPA’s new IP video training modules will greatly enhance this program’s effectiveness.”
Designed with Adobe Presenter, each of the six modules covers a specific area of intellectual property, namely, patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographic indicators, enforcement and trade. Given the range of specific needs and technological development of program participants, the modules are not intended as a substitute for live training, but as a supplement. GIPA participants may view the modules at leisure, selecting from five different languages: English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.
