Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program

Previous Years' TRI Basic Plus Data Files

The downloadable TRI Basic Plus Data files have been updated to include the most recent TRI data revisions received by EPA. These include some significant changes that affect the totals published in the 2010 TRI National Analysis. With the revisions, total releases and other disposal for 2010 were 3.85 billion pounds, a 13.4% increase from 2009.

EPA has been collecting TRI data since 1987. To view or download National data files from any previous TRI reporting year, click on the TRI reporting year from the options below. These files are a set of seven files that collectively contain all the data submitted on the TRI Reporting Form R or Form A Certification Statement by facilities in a selected state.

Files available here are .txt files bundled into a .zip format, see the TRI Basic Plus Data File Documentation v10 (222pp, 1019K, About PDF ) for a detailed description of the data fields contained in these files. Note that quantities of dioxin and dioxin-like compounds are reported in grams; all other chemicals are reported in pounds.

The seven file types in the TRI Basic Plus data files include the following:

1:  Facility, Chemical, Releases and Other Waste Management Summary Information

    Previous Years' Reporting Period:
    January 1, 1987 - December 31, 2010

    Data Updated: March 3, 2012

Have a TRI data question ?

2a: Detailed Source Reduction Activities and Methods
2b: Detailed On-Site Waste Treatment Methods and Efficiency
    3a: Details of Transfers Off-site
3b: Details of Transfers to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW)
    4:  Details of Facility Information
5:  Additional Information on Source Reduction, Recycling and Pollution Control

Note that this webpage contains the most recent versions of all TRI data files; facilities may revise previous years' TRI submissions if necessary, and any such changes will be reflected in these files. For this reason, data contained in these files may differ from data used to construct the TRI National Analysis.
