December 1, 2010 -- U.S. Chargé d' Affaires to Montenegro Bennett Lowenthal and Montenegro's Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic marked the completion of the construction of an Emergency Room and the renovation of the Health Center in Kolasin. Montenegro's Minister of Defense Boro Vucinic, Minister of Health Miodrag Radunovic, and Mayor of Kolasin Mileta Bulatovic also attended the event in Kolasin.
The American people, through the U.S. Military's European Command (EUCOM) humanitarian assistance program and the U.S. Embassy, provided $250,000 for the material to build the Emergency Room and an additional $140,000 for the renovation of the Health Center in Kolasin. Thirty members of the U.S. Navy construction battalion built the Emergency Room in Kolasin.
"May the new and refurbished Kolasin Health Center serve you long and well, and may it serve as a reminder to you both of U.S.-Montenegrin friendship and of the value of international military cooperation," said U.S. Charge d' Affaires Lowenthal at the official opening ceremony in Kolašin.
In addition, fifteen service members of the U.S. Air Force construction battalion participated in the renovation of the Health Center in Mojkovac from August through October this year. The American people, through EUCOM humanitarian assistance program and the U.S. Embassy, provided $160,000 for the project.
The U.S. EUCOM humanitarian assistance projects in Mojkovac and Kolasin are part of the NATO MEDCEUR 10 exercise which took place in Montenegro on September 8-22, 2010. EUCOM has supported 19 humanitarian assistance projects in Montenegro totaling more than $2,100,000 since October 2007.
