The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) establishes standards for the practice of nurse-midwifery, certifies nurse-midwives, and accredits nurse-midwifery education programs. ACNM holds an annual convention, publishes a variety of educational materials, and refers consumers to locally practicing nurse-midwives. ACNM also cooperates with allied groups to improve services for mothers and infants.
Publications
ACNM publications include a list of accredited educational programs, standards and guidelines for nurse-midwifery services, position papers, and a variety of consumer-oriented brochures and videos. Serial publication: Journal of Nurse-Midwifery, bimonthly--literature on and for nurse-midwives. Its scope includes the presentation of current knowledge in the fields of nurse-midwifery, parent-child health, obstetrics, well-woman gynecology, family planning, and neonatology.
