Task Force 30th Medical Command returns from Afghanistan deployment

HEIDELBERG, Germany — Soldiers of Task Force 30th Medical Command (MEDCOM) returned home April 26 after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
“For the past year I have had the honor of staying in close contact with (Army) Col. Doyle and the 30th Medical Command,” said Army Maj. Gen. David Rubenstein, Chief of the Army Medical Service Corps and the Army’s Deputy Surgeon General. “As a former commander of this brigade I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the successes that you’ve had throughout the last year. Simply put, you have saved lives.”
Task Force 30th MEDCOM uncased its colors at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan 12 months ago becoming the first Theater Medical Command in Afghanistan. In previous years, command and control had been decentralized throughout the theater. Task Force 30th provided a new solution, with centralized planning and expanded roles in health service support, force health protection, medical logistics, patient movement, and health care policy.
“For the thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and the thousands of family members of those wounded, thank you for what you have accomplished during your year of deployment,” said Rubenstein, who served as the commander of the 30th from 2004-2005.
Rubenstein also expressed his thanks to the family members who played an important role throughout the deployment.
“Your support of your soldier, your husband, your wife, your father, your mother, has been incredible and has been equally important," Rubenstein said. "The successes of these soldiers are your successes as well”
The unit is scheduled to officially uncase its colors June 4 at its headquarters on Nachricten Kaserne in Heidelberg.
As a subordinate of the Europe Regional Medical Command, the 30th MEDCOM provides expeditionary theater-level medical command and control, health service support, force health protection and medical synchronization of assigned and attached medical forces in support of U.S. Army Europe/7th Army or any directed global contingency operation.
