Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences

This program advances the use of scalable computing in scientific and engineering computation. We develop new programming paradigms for novel hardware, most recently for accelerators, such as graphical processing unit (GPUs). The AMCS program interfaces and collaborates with many application scientists and engineers, both in Ames and around the world. Our researchers collaborate with groups from other DOE laboratories to develop novel methods for adaptive programming, computational quality of service, sparse matrix solvers, and graphical interfaces. AMCS researchers are among the leaders in the development of petascale and exascale computing.  This program is home to the Scalable Computing Laboratory.
