Brigadier General Thomas B. Hoxie is deputy chief of staff, personnel, Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He recommends personnel policies and procedures and directs military and civilian personnel management programs for the command. He also provides staff supervision of the Air Force Reserve program and the Personnel Support Services.
General Hoxie was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1920. He attended Michigan State University and in 1941 entered the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. He graduated from the academy in 1944 with a bachelor of science degree, a commission as second lieutenant and pilot rating.
He completed B-24 transition training at Smyrna Army Air Field, Tenn., and was assigned in October 1944 as a B-24 pilot and later instructor pilot at Charleston Army Air Field, S.C. He attended. B-29 transition school at Maxwell Field, Ala., and was assigned as a B-29 pilot at MacDill Field, Fla. He was transferred to the 467th Bombardment Group, Clovis Army Air Field, N.M., in October 1945 as a B-29 pilot.
In February 1946 General Hoxie was assigned to the Far East Air Forces in Japan where he served as pilot in various supply positions, and became commander of the 75th Air Service Group. In November 1948 he returned to the United States and went to Westover Air Force Base, Mass., as adjutant with the 1600th Maintenance and Supply Group. He attended the Atomic Energy Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., and returned to the 1600th Group as a logistics officer. In October 1949 he entered the Special Weapons Course at Sandia Base, N.M.
From April 1950 to January 1954 he was at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash., as pilot, adjutant and operations officer with the 325th Bomb Squadron, 111th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, and later the 99th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. From January 1954 to June 1957 he was assigned to Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., in the Directorate of Plans, Headquarters Strategic Air Command.
In July 1957 General Hoxie was sent to Washington, D.C., and assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, as a plans and programming officer; and in August 1958 he was transferred to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense as a staff member of the Plans Division, Office of Manpower, Personnel and Reserve. He entered the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., in August 1960.
General Hoxie next was transferred to Fifth Air Force at Fuchu Air Station, Japan as director of manpower and organization, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations. He returned to the United States and to Headquarters U.S. Air Force in August 1964 and was assigned to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Programs and Resources, where he served as chief, Combat Forces Branch; deputy chief, Programs Division; and deputy director of manpower and organization.
In August 1970 General Hoxie was assigned to Air Force Logistics Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as deputy chief of staff, personnel.
His military decorations and awards include the Army Commendation Medal and Purple Heart.
He was promoted to the temporary grade of brigadier general effective Feb. 6, 1970, with date of rank Feb. 3, 1970.
