Selected for reassignment as Vice Director, Intelligence, J-2, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Brig. Gen. James Marrs serves as Deputy to the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan as well as Deputy Director, Intelligence, United States Forces-Afghanistan.

General Marrs was commissioned in 1987 as a distinguished and honors graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. His career includes a variety of operational intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance duties, including operational experience spanning five regional combatant commands. He has multiple deployments to Southwest Asia during operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Southern Watch and he's commanded at the squadron, group, center, and wing levels.

General Marrs is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. He also served as a special adviser to the Vice President of the United States, where he provided advice and expertise on a range of national security issues. Prior to his current assignment, General Marrs was the Senior Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Washington, D.C.
