Hill AFB had a close association with the BOMARC missile over the years. The Ogden Air Materiel Area became the prime maintenance and supply depot for the missile's Aerojet General booster rockets in August 1954 and its Marquardt ramjet engines in April 1956. In June 1957 OOAMA became the system manager for several interceptor and strategic cruise missile programs, including the IM-99 BOMARC. Overhaul of the missile and its boosters and engines got underway in 1958.

In July 1959 jurisdiction of the Air Force Plant Representative Office at the Boeing Airplane Company in Seattle, Washington, was transferred to the Ogden AMA. This gave Hill administrative responsibility over subcontractors working on Boeing products, including the BOMARC missile, in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.

By late 1959 over half a million square feet of maintenance and supply floor space on base was dedicated to the BOMARC program. The first advanced IM-99B missiles arrived on base in January 1962 and in early 1963 base technicians began the repair of BOMARC-B ramjet fuel packages. Ogden also handled the conversion of the BOMARC missiles to target drones for the Air Force and Navy in the early 1980s.

The BOMARC B missile on display was donated to the museum by Morton Thiokol Wasatch Operations, Brigham City, Utah, in December 1986. The missile became part of the USAF Museum System in May 1987. The BOMARC Launcher Transporter was obtained from Chanute AFB, Illinois, in 1989.
