The Heritage Foundation just came out with a sobering new report looking at how four straight years of trillion-dollar-plus deficits are threatening our nation’s economic recovery and future prosperity. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, on which I serve as a Subcommittee Chairman, is expanding its bipartisan investigation into the deadly fungal meningitis outbreak across America. Two more people have now died. It’s critically important that we get to the bottom of this tragedy and take steps to prevent it from happening again.- Making certain that our nation’s seniors are protected in their golden years remains one of my top priorities. I was honored this week to receive the “2012 Standing Up for America’s Seniors Award” from RetireSafe, a national grassroots organization. I will continue to work hard to preserve and protect Medicare and Social Security for future generations.

Today, I urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to provide sanctuary for 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan, who was gunned down yesterday by the Taliban for championing the rights of women and girls.
