  1. I was truly honored to receive the “Legislator of the Year Award” at the 13th Annual International Hispanic Awards celebration in Indian Wells. This is a great event, and it has continued to grow in size and stature every year since its in...
ception. I would like to thank Ana and Al Vasquez of La Prensa Hispana for everything they do for our community and for organizing the event. If I had my way, Ana and Al would be getting a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for their selflessness, their dedication to others, their devotion to freedom, and their passionate entrepreneurial spirit. La Prensa Hispana is a huge asset to our community, and Ana and Al deserve credit for everything they have given back over the years to the people of the Coachella Valley. Please give a big “thumbs up” to Ana and Al. Thanks!

  2. Today, the House Energy and Commerce Committee released a detailed report on our work during the third quarter of this year. As Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, I am proud of our many bipartisan achi...
evements. You read a lot in the media about the differences between the two parties – and they can be very significant at times – but you rarely hear about our bipartisan successes, because the media doesn’t find them to be newsworthy enough. It’s the old “bad news” sells newspapers story. Well, please take a look at this report and judge for yourself. Thanks!

  3. The Heritage Foundation just came out with a sobering new report looking at how four straight years of trillion-dollar-plus deficits are threatening our nation’s economic recovery and future prosperity. If you doubt why we need to dramatic...
ally cut non-essential federal spending, then please read this report. “If current policies continue, debt held by the public will approach 90 percent of total economic output by 2022, and will be twice the size of the entire economy 25 years from now.” That pretty much says it all.

  4. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, on which I serve as a Subcommittee Chairman, is expanding its bipartisan investigation into the deadly fungal meningitis outbreak across America. Two more people have now died. It’s critically important that we get to the bottom of this tragedy and take steps to prevent it from happening again.
  5. Making certain that our nation’s seniors are protected in their golden years remains one of my top priorities. I was honored this week to receive the “2012 Standing Up for America’s Seniors Award” from RetireSafe, a national grassroots organization. I will continue to work hard to preserve and protect Medicare and Social Security for future generations.

  6. Today, I urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to provide sanctuary for 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan, who was gunned down yesterday by the Taliban for championing the rights of women and girls. Malala survived this cowardly a...
ttack, but the Taliban is now vowing to go after her again. We cannot let that happen. As I explained to Secretary Clinton, with terrorism spreading around the world, we need more leaders – not more martyrs to mourn. Click here to read my entire letter: ow.ly/enjV3
