Assistant Secretary for Labor and Economic Analysis Stephanie McGarrah

Assistant Secretary for Labor and Economic Analysis, Stephanie McGarrah oversees the Department’s economists, researchers, analysts and statisticians who collect and analyze key economic and employment data.  Under McGarrah‘s direction, the Labor and Economic Analysis Division (LEAD) provides data to businesses, economic developers and communities through AccessNC; staffs the N.C. Economic Development Board; collects and analyzes employment statistics in cooperation with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics; conducts economic and fiscal impact analyses; and develops labor and economic analyses to support economic development decision-makers.  She was appointed in 2007.

McGarrah currently serves on three national boards that work to enhance the quality of the nation’s economic and labor statistics:  the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), the Projections Managing Partnership, and the Labor Market Information Training Institute.

McGarrah previously worked at the Department of Commerce as the policy director and staff director for the N.C. Economic Development Board, and she has more than 10 years of public policy and market research experience.  Before returning to Commerce, McGarrah served as the public policy manager at Red Hat. She holds a B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Masters in Public Policy from Duke University.
