Region 5: Tempe – Elizabeth Whitehead, Director

Whitehead's PictureElizabeth Whitehead is Director of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Region 5 office in Tempe, Arizona.

As Region 5 Director, Ms. Whitehead leads the examination and supervision program for federally insured credit unions located in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming and Guam.

Ms. Whitehead previously served as Associate Regional Director, Programs, in the Region 1 Albany, N.Y., office. She joined NCUA as an examiner in 1988, and advanced serving as a senior supervision analyst and principal examiner. Prior to federal service, Ms. Whitehead was CEO of Hurlbut Employees FCU in South Lee, Massachusetts.

 

 

 

ARDO - Cherie Freed

Cherie Freed is the Associate Regional Director of Operations (ARDO) for the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Region 5 office in Tempe, Arizona. Freed previously served as the director of supervision in the Tempe, AZ office and as the loss risk analysis officer in the Office of Examination and Insurance in 2006. Freed began her career in January 1987 as an examiner in Phoenix, AZ. In 1991 she became a problem case officer and later a corporate examiner in the Austin Region.

Before joining NCUA, Freed served as the controller for a manufacturing company in Phoenix, AZ. Throughout her NCUA career, Freed has received numerous awards and recognition, including the Specialized Examiner of the Year in 2009 and Supervisor of the Year in 2010. Ms. Freed holds a bachelor of science in accounting from Northwest Missouri State University.


ARDP - Mike Dyer

Mike Dyer joined NCUA in 1993 as an examiner in Chicago, Illinois. He has a wealth of experience in resolving problem credit unions. During his NCUA career, Mr. Dyer was a problem case officer for six years and the Director of Special Actions for five years in Region 5.

Throughout his NCUA career, Mr. Dyer has received numerous awards and recognition, including Examiner of the Year in 1997, Specialized Examiner of the Year in 2000, and more recently, Supervisor of the Year in 2008.

Mr. Dyer holds a bachelors degree in accounting and mathematics from Saint Mary’s University of Winona, Minnesota, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
