Cohen Receives 2012 Public Official of the Year Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today received the 2012 Public Official of the Year Award from the Tennessee Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

“It is a pleasure and an honor to be recognized by the Tennessee Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers for my work on behalf of social workers,” said Congressman Cohen.  “Social workers make a real difference in our communities, especially on behalf of the poor.  I have long supported our social workers throughout my career in government and will continue to fight for them and those they help in Congress.”

NASW is a membership organization that promotes, develops and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the effective functioning and well-being of individuals, families, and communities through its work and through its advocacy. 

The Tennessee Chapter, with over 2,000 members, is the major professional social work organization in the state.  NASW is committed to advancing professional social work practice and the profession; and to promoting sound social policies.  Professional members work in a broad range of settings including mental health centers, hospitals and other health care settings, community agencies, government, academia, business, nursing homes, schools, and private practice.
