The CIA Office of Inspector General (OIG) is composed of professionally trained auditors, inspectors, and investigators who promote economy, efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability in the management of CIA activities by performing independent audits, inspections, investigations, and reviews of CIA programs and operations.

The OIG is the only part of the CIA created separately by statute that has obligations and responsibilities running both to the Director and to the Congress.  The OIG is one of management’s most important tools to identify and recommend corrections of inefficiencies and shortcomings in the CIA’s operations, and yet the OIG must remain sufficiently independent of management to be in a position to provide objective, candid advice.

Much like the CIA prides itself on providing unvarnished, objective analysis to policymakers, the OIG prides itself in providing unvarnished, objective analysis to CIA managers and to our Congressional overseers.
