Library/Media Center named for ATC's 5th President

Nov 21, 2011

Albany Technical College dedicated its new library and media center today in honor of the school's longest serving, and current President.

Dr. Parker is Albany Tech's 5th President.  During his 16-years in the role, the school reached record enrollment and graduation numbers.  He helped expand educational opportunities by adding programs, including workforce development and training.  Since his mother was a librarian, he says it's fitting the school's Library and Media Center was named in his honor.

"I had to pass the county library on the way home from elementary schools and from junior high so I had to go to the library and study before I could go out and play so I spent a lot of time in the library growing up and spent a lot of time reading because of my mother's influence and in those early days it wasn't exactly appreciated but its certainly appreciated now," said Dr. Anthony O. Parker, Albany Technical College President.

Congressman Sanford Bishop read what he presented into the Congressional record about Dr. Parker on the House Floor in Washington.  The Dr. Anthony O. Parker Library and media center is on the second floor of the Logistics Education Center.
