A woman was killed and her two young sons seriously hurt after she drove her minivan around crossing gates and was hit by a Metra Rock Island train on the South Side this morning, officials said.

Lawyers seek hearings for torture victims with 'credible claims'

Attorneys with Northwestern University Law School filed a petition today asking a judge to grant hearings to scores of men imprisoned for murder who have "credible claims" they were tortured into confessing by former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge or detectives under his control.
