Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, October 15th, 2012 through Monday, October 22nd, 2012 PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are expected to be mostly Good through the week with a mix of Good and Moderate early next week. FORECAST DISCUSSION: The storm system which brought plenty of rain this past weekend was departing to the northeast early Monday. A weak high pressure ridge moves in Tuesday, and then a warm front passing over will bring scattered precipitation chances as we move into Wednesday. Winds increase in speed Wednesday keeping the atmosphere well mixed with Good fine particulate levels through mid-week. A cold front crosses the state Thursday; however, low pressure at the surface and upper levels will linger into Friday. Fine particulate levels for the end of the week are expected to remain Good. To start the weekend high pressure looks to develop across the eastern/southeastern states keeping us in a southwesterly wind. Winds will not be as strong; therefore, fine particulate may reach the low-Moderate range. EXTENDED FORECAST: Extended forecast models show high pressure remaining in control into Sunday before the next weather system brings scattered precipitation back in the forecast later Sunday, into Monday. With this weather pattern we don’t expect any widespread outbreak of increased fine particulate levels; however, readings will likely range between upper Good and middle Moderate.
