Forecast Discussion: Friday, October 12 -- The unseasonably mild and dry weather will come to an end today as the first in a series of weather disturbances move through the region. Significant wildfire smoke intrusion is unlikely, but the strong westerly transport winds and south to southwesterly surface winds this afternoon and Saturday could transport some smoke into the Spokane area. The stronger winds in the absence of, or their arrival this afternoon prior to, any significant precipitation means that it is likely that there will be areas of blowing dust in Spokane County, but especially in the Columbia Basin. A stronger weather regime will arrive late Sunday or Monday and will bring a much better chance of widespread precipitation and an end to the threat of wildfire smoke. |
