DDESS Education Division

The purpose of the DDESS Education Division, led by the Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, is to provide support of school improvement through:

  • program evaluation
  • professional development
  • curriculum implementation
  • classroom assessment
  • instructional best practices for 21st Century learning

Our team includes:

We are committed to providing the tools, training, technical assistance, and support to our schools to assist them in meeting their school improvement goals.

Training, Technical Assistance, and Support

Training

The purpose of training activities are to provide high quality teacher training in support of school, district, area, or systemic initiatives. Although the method of delivery may vary, these training activities share common attributes. All activities must be:

  • Standards based
  • Delivered to teachers utilizing best practices from the professional development literature
  • Provide follow up support.

Training activities may be in support of:

  • Instructional practices or strategies
  • Content knowledge
  • Implementation of new curriculum standards or materials.

Technical Assistance

Technical assistance is generally focused on specific program content and may be narrower in scope. Technical assistance training targets a predetermined population for highly specific program specific training such as:

  • special education procedures
  • school health room practices
  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program parameters.

Consultation and Other Support Activities

The consultation role may consist of telephone or written communication or simply the “at a distance” support of promising practices such as action research, study groups, peer coaching, collaborative learning community engagement and other innovative activities.
