The Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers promote and protect the agricultural industry, the environment and the public of the State of California.

Appointed by respective County Board of Supervisors, County Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers of Weights and Measures carry out the laws and regulations of the state and enforce local ordinances. We provide the first line of defense against the introduction of injurious plant and animal pests and protect the consumer through our dedicated enforcement of agricultural and weights and measures laws and regulations.

Mary_2_smallIn California, each county has an Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights and Measures working to protect individual consumers, the environment and the agriculture industry in the state which is currently valued at $36 Billion. We work to maintain a balance between regulatory requirements and commerce to meet the 21st Century challenges and demands of our dynamic food and agriculture industry and to protect our abundant and varying ecosystems.  Each day we ensure that consumers get what they pay for at the pharmacy, the grocery store and the gasoline pump.  We are also continually surveying for harmful pests and plant diseases that could damage some of the 300-plus agricultural crops grown in California, a large part of the global food and fiber supply.
