National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October marks the beginning of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which provides us with the opportunity to increase awareness, share stories and help educate others about breast cancer. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. That means one in eight women in your life - a family member, neighbor or co-worker - has been or will be diagnosed.

National Public Lands Day
Our state is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. As a native Westerner, I’ve always been passionate about preserving our natural environment and our way of life. We as Coloradans take great pride in our wilderness, but we also must remember to take care of it. That is why this Saturday, I invite you to partake in the National Public Lands Day volunteer effort. Saturday, September 29th marks the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands in America.

Colorado Congressional Delegation Welcomes Start of U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree's Tour to Washington, D.C.
Sen. Mark Udall, Sen. Michael Bennet, and Reps. Diana DeGette, Jared Polis, Scott Tipton, Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn, Mike Coffman and Ed Perlmutter today welcomed the kick-off to the 2012 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree's journey from Colorado to Washington, D.C. The "People's Tree," a 73-inch Engleman Spruce, will be cut from the White River National Forest's Blanco Ranger District near Meeker, Colo., on Nov. 2, 2012, and will make its way to the nation's capital via stops in Colorado and around the country.

Mark Udall congratulated David Wineland, a physicist at the University of Colorado and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, on receiving the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in the field of quantum mechanics. Mark Udall spoke on the Senate floor this morning pushing Congress to pass an extension of the Production Tax Credit for wind energy. In his 19th speech, Udall focused on the economic impacts of wind energy production in Wyoming, whose wind farms now power the equivalent of 400,000 homes. Udall will continue to urge his Senate colleagues to pass the wind Production Tax Credit.
