The Sandia Corporate Ombuds Office was established in 1992 as a confidential and neutral resource to which Sandia employees and non-Sandians could bring any Sandia-related issues, questions and concerns, as well as get assistance in resolving disputes in an informal, non-escalating way. The Ombuds provide people with an opportunity to generate and evaluate more of their own options, choose a course of action more wisely and follow it more respectfully. The Ombuds Office keeps no formal or written records other than non-confidential statistical summaries. It is organizationally independent, separate from all management lines within Sandia and therefore not an office of report that would place Sandia on notice in any fashion.
In 1999, increased emphasis was placed on ensuring that alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes are more accessible and better understood by Sandia’s external business partners and the wider community of which Sandia is a member. Just as the Ombuds Office is a part of Sandia’s internal ADR processes, it is available to assist in external dispute resolution, as well.
