House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders today requested a bipartisan briefing from the New England Compounding Center (NECC) regarding the recent multi-state fungal meningitis outbreak that has proved fatal for over a dozen individuals. Federal officials have linked the contaminated spinal steroid injections responsible for the outbreak to the NECC in Framingham, Massachusetts. Earlier this week, the committee leaders requested briefings from the CDC and FDA.

According to the CDC, eight people have died and over 100 people have been sickened across nine states, and it is expected that the number may rise in the coming weeks.
The bipartisan leadership of the Energy and Commerce Committee and its Communications and Technology Subcommittee today released data submitted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding the Universal Service Fund (USF) high-cost and low-income support programs. The data was supplied by the FCC in response to a request by the Committee regarding USF support payments.
